Principals of Occupational Safety & Health

Training Goals
Upon completion of the Principals of Occupational Safety and Health (POSH), you will be able to apply the essential terminology, principles, and practices of occupational safety and health to the special needs of your organization.
POSH is a 4.5-day comprehensive training program based on NSC’s 2-volume Accident Prevention Manuals. It addresses the technical and human relations aspects of occupational safety and health in any size and type of business or industry.

    Training Goals
    Upon completion of Safety Training Methods (STM), you will be able to make decisions about your safety and health training needs - needs analysis, performance, objectives, instructional strategy and methods, content, media, delivery, evaluation, and cost.
    STM is a 4.5 –day course focusing on the knowledge and skills required to assess your training needs; as well as to plan, organize, create, and deliver safety and health training programs.

    During training, you will:

  • Plan and design a custom training program
  • Learn strategies that address adult learning needs
  • Complete a training needs analysis
  • Deliver presentations to the group
  • Identify training and non-training solutions for safety and health case studies

    Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene

    Training Goals
    Upon completion of Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene (FIH), you will be able to recognize potential and existing chemical, physical, ergonomic, and biological hazards, you will also be able to conduct an industrial hygiene walk-through survey, and perform basic air and noise monitoring.
    Based on NSC’s Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene technical manual, this 4.5 day course examines four key processes in an effective industrial hygiene effort - anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control.

    Emergency Care Courses

    Standard First Aid/CPR/AED for Employees

    This is a one day course that teaches care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults (infants and children also included), identifying and caring for bleeding, sudden illness, injuries and preventing disease transmission. This course is designed to meet OSHA standards for workplace first aid and CPR training. This course also meets a variety of licensure requirements for adult care workers.

    First Aid /CPR/AED Instructor Development Course

    Training Goals
    Upon completion of this 3-day course you will be able to obtain official certification to teach first aid and CPR courses. You will learn how to conduct class sessions, and will be provided with the reasons and dynamics behind each topic or visual presentation.

    Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens Instructor Development Course

    The Bloodborne Pathogens instructor course meets the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard and is your tool for training employees or members of the general public who may come in contact with infectious materials as part of their jobs. This is a one-half day course.
    During this course you will learn new methods that involve, influence and facilitate adult learning while refining your teaching skills.

    Van Driver II for Employees

    Forklift Operator Instructor Training

    This course meets the OSHA CFR 1910.178(l) safety training requirements for Powered Industrial Vehicle Operators.
    This program trains you to train your lift truck operators to use their equipment safely. It helps you comply with OSHA’s Powered Industrial Standard, aimed at reducing injuries and related costs. This is an eight hour course.

    Professional Truck Driver Instructor Development Course

    Flagger Training for Employees

    The National Safety Council’s Flagger Training Program is a skill-building program taught by certified instructors and meets federal guidelines for controlling traffic through construction work areas. The program includes best practices and performance-based testing for new flaggers. This class lasts four hours.

    Flagger Instructor Development Course

    The National Safety Council’s Flagger Instructor Course is one-day and will provide the instructor candidate with:

    Occupational Safety & Health Training

    Safety Management for Construction

    This one-day course focuses on the special needs of construction supervisors.

    OSHA 10-Hour Training for Roadway Construction Industry

    Developed by the National Safety Council and the American Road and Transportation Builders Association, this two-day course covers 11 modules that can be taught separately. Material is geared toward roadway work zone construction workers. Information focuses on practical approaches to recognizing and controlling OSDA-identified construction hazards.

    Temporary Traffic Control in Work Zones - Design & Supervision

    The National Safety Council’s newest work zone training program gives traffic engineers and technicians the knowledge and skills to establish safe, efficient movement of traffic and protection for roadway construction workers. Contractors, utility industry employees and municipal, county or state employees involved in establishing and maintaining traffic control in or near the vehicle right-of-way will benefit from this course.
    At Least one year of experience in work zone traffic control and a passing grade on the written test are required to receive a certificate from this course. The course for employees lasts one day. The Instructor Development Course is two days.

    Course Content:

  • Discussion of common problems associated with traffic flow control
  • Fundamental principles of traffic control
  • Review of the 15 devices normally used in traffic control situations
  • Typical applications from the MUTCD Manual.

    Incident Investigation

    Training Goals
    Upon completion of the Incident Investigation course, you will be able to:

  • Analyze accidents to identify true root causes
  • Describe human issues affection incident reporting
