DDC - Professional Truck Driver Train-the-Trainer Course

For more than 20 years, the National Safety Council DDC-Professional Truck Driver (PTD) program has been the most comprehensive training of its type, giving professional truck drivers defensive driving techniques that help them avoid collisions, injuries and violations and teach personal responsibility for their driving decisions. DDC-PTD offers the most up-to-date training for different industries and classes of vehicles and conforms to all current US DOT standards based on The Large Truck Crash Causation Study announced by the U.S. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. This program can be easily modified to address any company’s specific equipment, driver issues and policies.

Topics covered in DDC-PTD

Throughout the 6 -8 hour course, participants learn how to recognize both potential and immediate hazards, how to avoid collisions in a variety of driving conditions, and how to choose safe and legal driving behaviors. The course addresses multiple defensive driving concepts and strategies. Participants are engaged through group activities, discussions and self-awareness oriented instruments that relate to their driving behaviors. Content covered in this course include:

  • How driver fatigue/stress affects operating a large truck
  • Proper vehicle maintenance and inspection
  • Steps for completing a Moral Responsibility Checklist
  • How to deal with changing driving condition and hazards
  • Identify physical/mental driver conditions that affect driving performance
  • Identifying blind spots, safe following/stopping distances, lane management and backing safely
