Defensive Driving
The National Safety Council originated the defensive driving movement. Currently, classes are
taught in every state in the nation and in 15 foreign countries. Defensive Driving Courses offer
excellent opportunities to learn the basics of safer driving, discover potentially dangerous habits,
and review collision-prevention techniques. For further information on defensive driving for traffic citations,

Arizona drivers cited for a minor
traffic violation may be eligible to enroll in a National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course. If completed,
the citation is dismissed and no points are placed on the driving record. Points on
a driving record may increase insurance rates. Attendance for ticket dismissal is limited to once
every 24 months, from violation date to violation date.
Call to register now, as classes meet capacity quickly, and class completion is necessary prior to
the court citation date. Day-long classes are held on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays, from 7:30
a.m. to approximately 3:30 p.m. During the week sessions are given on Monday and Tuesday
evenings, or Wednesday and Thursday evenings, from 5:30 p.m. to about 9:30 a.m.
Statewide locations include: Douglas, Flagstaff, Payson, Pinetop/Show Low, Sierra Vista, Tucson, Williams, and Yuma.
In Maricopa County classes are presented in Ahwatukee, Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale, Fountain Hills, Litchfield Park, Mesa,
Paradise Valley, Peoria, Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe.
To register for class in Maricopa County, call 222-3360; in the Tucson area, call 620-1288, or call
toll-free at 1-800-293-0112, outside Maricopa County. Offices are open Monday through Friday,
from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
