Usafe: A National Safety Council Entrustee ®

Community Safety & Health

The need for safety off the job knows no boundaries. Unfortunately, little formal programming exists to meet this challenge. USafe® was created t make such efforts readily accessible to a wide audience.

SafeLife® Tots
The dangers faced by infants are staggering. No wonder parenting can be so stressful.

The focus of SafeLife® Infants is to prepare parents to better avoid the many dangers faced by small children in the home, car and surrounding environment. This program offers up-to-date information on relevant auto safety, home safety, water/pool safety, furniture/toy concerns, and nutrition. With over 43,000 children between the ages of 0 and 4 in Maricopa County alone, smart parenting is essential for the healthy and happy rearing of our children.

Fun and enriching presentations by knowledgeable instructors will give you the information necessary to provide safer surroundings for your children.

SafeLife® Kids
Did you know that more children lose their lives each year due to PREVENTABLE injuries than all childhood diseases combined? SafeLife® Kids was created in response to this realization and is taught in local 5th grade classrooms through an interactive 10-week curriculum. Each chapter focuses on a topic that specifically affects the well being of children. Volunteers teach the class in an open format encouraging group discussion and feedback. Topics such as gun safety, Internet safety, personal safety, violence prevention, decision making, occupant restraint, water safety, emergency medical situations, pedestrian safety, and outdoor recreational safety are discussed.

SafeLife® Kids is an exceptional opportunity for both business partners and students to learn together. Corporate sponsorships often make the difference in creating active, hands-on learning experiences in many schools. Youngsters welcome the change in daily schedules and always have smiles of encouragement for classroom volunteers.

SafeLife® Seniors
This program is for the adult children of senior citizens or for seniors themselves.

Falls kill 29 seniors each day, and 240,000 people over the age of 50 will suffer hip fractures as a result of a fall. One of ten seniors who fall will be hospitalized, and half of those hospitalized will never be able to live independently again. Other preventable incidents - burns, motor vehicle crashes, and unintentional poisonings for example- are far more likely to be injurious or fatal to seniors.

Your parents probably worked hard to provide a safe environment for you as you were growing up. Now, as your parents move toward, or are beginning to enjoy a well deserved retirement, it's time for you to return the favor. This program can help you to do just that. Learn the exposures and appropriate counter measures.
